Biography

Atlas, a New Zealand-based band, formed in 2005 once core members Sean Cunningham and brother and sister Beth and Ben Campbell decided that what had started as a songwriting collaboration should be taken to the next level. Ben Campbell had been a longtime fixture on the kiwi rock scene, spending nine years with the band Zed, who had experienced multi-platinum sales, and warmed up the stage for such names as Robbie Williams and Coldplay. Sister Beth had been a backup singer for the Beach Boys and Chicago before joining her brother in Atlas, and Cunningham, originally from Kentucky, was introduced to the siblings by producer Hank Linderman. After adding lead guitarist Andy Lynch and drummer Joe McCallum, the group was ready to enter the studio, and in November 2007 the band emerged with the album Reasons for Voyaging, which was a Top Ten hit for the band. The second single from the album, "Crawl," hit number one and was a certified gold-seller. ~ Chris True, All Music Guide
