Review

Chris Fortier's timely foray into rump-shaking, progressive trance comes in the form of a DJ-mix album of varied proportions. More a coherent saunter into comforting breakbeats punctuated by accessible tunes than an all-out assault, Fortier slips in Miro's pretty bonfire vibes ("Paradise) and a scintillating remix of Energy 52's mournful togetherness ("Café Del Mar") with the adroit deck skills of a DJ choosing to shoot for plateaus instead of peaks. Keep an ear out for the climaxing "Summer Breeze" by Free Radicals which fades in with gentle piano tickles that elevate this one-note variety into something genuinely maternal. Non-threatening, does its job: This is a mix that knows how to play it safe, but also knows when to put in the breaks. ~ Dean Carlson, Rovi
