Attack of the 80s collects the theatrical trailers for fifty of the movies that defined the decade of parachute pants, Ronald Reagan, and the Rubik's Cube. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi
Review
Trailer collections are usually built around genres or personalities but Attack Of The 1980's takes the novel and risky tack of arranging its trailers around the theme of a decade. In the confines of the disc, the viewer is treated to everything from children's fare (The Last Unicorn) to gruesome horror (Amityville 2: The Possession), from serious Oscar-minded work (Silkwood) to gritty exploitation (Death Wish 2). Thankfully, this gambit works and Attack Of The 80's is a rollercoaster of memories that is unpredictable in a good way. The crazy quilt of styles and ambitions on display in the various films compiled here does a nice job of recreating the unpredictable nature of commercial fare during that time when the New Hollywood of the 1970's and the last vestiges of old showbiz were making way for the Blockbuster era: one minute, the audience is shrieking at The Shining; minutes later, they are laughing their heads off at The Cannonball Run. The end result is a fun ride and the fact that viewers won't know what they'll see next just enhances the enjoyment. Thus, Attack Of The 80's is well worth the time for trailer buffs and will also make a nice party-disc for the casual viewer. ~ Donald Guarisco, Rovi
