Attack of the Show! (commonly referred to as AOTS) is an American live television program shown weeknights on G4, G4 Tech TV in Canada ^[1] and Fuel TV in Australia ^[2]. The program is hosted by Kevin Pereira and Olivia Munn. Attack of the Show! reviews new technological items, parodies daily news, and gives exclusive previews of upcoming and highly anticipated video games, movies and digital media.

History

The program is known for commonly having segments where viewers can call, chat (the Virtual Audience), and e-mail questions which are answered live on the show. The show premiered on March 28, 2005 as the replacement for The Screen Savers. The show originally aired live five days a week; the week of January 2, 2006, the show was truncated to air for only four days a week. Fridays formerly featured a "Mash Up" which compiles the best segments from the week's four live shows. The show returned to the air live, five days a week, in September 2008, but G4 announced as of Monday, March 2, 2009, Attack Of The Show! would be cut back once again to four days a week with a "best of" show running in the Friday time-slot. Attack of the Show! aired its 1,000th episode on July 9, 2009.

Host Kevin Rose, one of the holdovers from the TechTV days, left the show in May 2005. The show announced a search for a new host among the show's audience, and for several months various candidates auditioned on the air. In the end none of the candidates were actually selected, although, puzzlingly, this was never actually announced on the air. Sarah Lane, who had previously been a co-host and segment contributor, gradually became the show's official host. She continued in this capacity until Thursday, April 6, 2006, when she and Brendan Moran announced their engagement and stated that they would be leaving the show. ^[3] The Morans appeared on the show, via satellite, on July 13, 2006 to talk about their adventures. The couple had been involved with TechTV and G4 since 2001, and their departure, like Rose's, was greeted with distress by the show's fans.

Olivia Munn was hired to replace Lane and began hosting on Monday, April 10, 2006. Zach Selwyn, the runner up on ESPN's Dream Job, was hired to replace Moran and started his hosting duties a week later on April 17, 2006. Wil O'Neal, a CNET senior editor who was one of the hosting candidates following Rose's departure, appeared on the show semi-regularly as a technology correspondent until 2007, when O'Neal departed from the program and was replaced by comedian Chris Hardwick, former host of Singled Out; he is also currently a writer for Wired magazine and the host for G4's The Soup spinoff, Web Soup. ^[4] Pereira is now the sole remaining host from the AOTS launch in 2005.

Title Synopsis AOTS Classics [11] Memorable clips from the shows past. Around the Net [12] A daily profile of websites featuring the top five online videos with unique or bizarre idiosyncrasies. Videos are usually accompanied by a mock interview with an "expert" or them acting out the circumstances of the video, if possible. Sub-segments includes: Women on Wheels (when videos portray women drivers doing ditzy things) Monk Shot (When a video includes something sounding similar to "Monk Shot", and Shenanigans Lab (Debunking fake videos). Before and after certain commercial breaks an ATNesque segment called "What Happens Next?" (Formerly just Around the Net) airs, where part of a video is shown with 3 possible options, the correct answer and the rest of the video are shown after the break. For a brief period in 2008, Around the Net included non-video content, memes and phenomena from the Internet, mixed with videos. Attack This! (formerly The List)[13] A daily showcase of various things that the G4TV hosts recommend the viewers to buy, download etc. Presented by Olivia Munn ATN After Hours Same as the Around the Net segment, except that after the five videos, more adult content is shown in uncensored form. Airs on the early morning repeats only. Blog Watch [14] The show cast goes around the blogosphere to find blogs that deal with very specific things. BREAK! Moments in De-Evolution (formerly Great Moments In De-Evolution) [15] Kevin and Olivia review several online videos from BREAK.com of people doing ridiculous stunts, which usually end in bodily harm and/or property damage. Each video is rated on a scale of 1 to 5, with a different satirical value for each segment (e.g. "Out-of-control tire fires", "Rolling meth labs" or "Gun-totin' grannies"). DVDuesday [16] Chris Gore’s reviews and picks for DVD releases and rates them as: buy, rent, or pass. Shown each Tuesday. Epic Fail Kevin and Olivia single out one online video in particular that has poor content, a contrived setting, or people who are clearly trying too hard. The term is derived from the Epic Fail meme perpetuated. The Feed [17] Pop culture and technology news delivered in blurbs, presented by Kristin Adams, Alison Haislip or Blair Herter. Formerly presented by Layla Kayleigh. Also the branding of the program's news ticker. Fresh Ink! [18] Blair Butler reviews upcoming comic book titles and rates them as: buy, browse, or burn. A running gag about this segment revolves around no one knowing what a "hoon" actually is. Robot News [25] A random segment which highlights the advancement of robotics and jest their imminent takeover of the world. Sneakerheads [26] The latest in sneaker culture which includes the newest shoes to hit the market, blogs/websites on shoes, etc. Narrated by Kevin Video Viewer Mail [27] Viewers send in videos of themselves, asking questions, giving opinions, etc. Olivia and Kevin originally introduced it by saying something along the lines of "Let's talk to you guys over in the army of monitor heads." until the army of monitor heads were retired in mid 2008. Virtual Audience [28] Kevin and Olivia talk with viewers via webcams about various topics. Web Tools [29] WebTools takes a look at the web-based applications that enrich your online life and tells you where you can find them. What's Up with Japan? (also called What's Up with the World?) [30] Kevin talks about the strange occurrences within Japan, from tech to popular culture. In relating to Japan, the segment's title is also given in Japanese as 現代日本事情 (Gendai Nippon Jijō), a rough translation of the English title. Who's Who on Youtube [31] Features rising or popular people on Youtube and their rise to fame. Women of the Web [32] Kevin gives a rundown of the "Top 10" hottest women on the web for a given week. The segment spun off into full-length television specials including a contest searching for the "Next Woman of the Web."[33] WTF?! [34] Kevin discusses strange things on the web. Jimmy the Geek A segment where gambling expert Jimmy The Geek gives out picks for smart betting on upcoming sporting events. Preditions are based on video game simulations, basic knowledge on the sport, history, statistics etc. Jimmy emulates a slimy individual often saying funny yet mildly sexual & obscene comments as metaphors to bets. Know Your Candidates An in depth look at the 2008 presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama. [36] Lil Wil's Discount Warehouse Hosted By Wil O'Neal, Wil gives the viewers latest in tech gadgets at a low price and a website to purchase the item. Olivia's Rack Olivia Munn shares her favorite magazine articles.[37] Sarah's Damn Good Website Sarah Lane shows viewers amusing or entertaining websites. Sports Junk Zach Selwyn brings viewers the latest in sports news and in sports videogames. The Lush (also called The Lush for the Drunk) The latest in tips and tricks to find and make drinks. Segment later hosted by Layla Kayleigh. User Created Contest where fans and viewers of the show submit videos of a specific topic (80s videogame commercials, Horror films, Holiday specials, etc.) in exchange for prizes. 1000th Episode Attack of the Show! celebrated their 1000th episode, on July 9, 2009 [38] starting at 7:00pm Eastern Standard Time. The show ran for two hours, highlighting the segments, skits, and other memorable moments from the show's previous 999 episodes. Highlights included: Kevin Pereira successfully catching a greased pig. Tom Green smashing the red and gray set robots. Epic failure of world’s first sky-written tweet. Office Jesus returning. Kevin Rose appearing via clip. Kevin's first appearance on G4. Sarah Lane appearing live in-studio, does AOTS Gauntlet (running on treadmill, attempting to blend McDonald's dollar menu, drinking shots of hot sauce) and briefly reminisces. Never before seen audition tapes for Olivia Munn and Alison Haislip. Alan Thicke joins the hosts to sing the Growing Pains theme, and made out with Olivia suddenly after. A new music video by Parry Gripp with Kevin and Olivia in it. International broadcasting In Australia, the program has experienced a short but turbulent broadcast schedule. In September, 2006 long-time broadcaster of the show, HOW TO Channel in Australia stopped airing the program after the format no longer suited the channel's D.I.Y. format. However, in November 2007 Fuel TV (a sports channel) began airing the program. The program also films special episodes outside of the states; during certain times of the year it will travel to settings like Japan, Comic-Con, or Amsterdam and Jamaica for 4/20. Attack of the Show is also available in Canada on G4 Canada. In the Philippines, episodes are aired with a one-week delay on Maxxx.
