Atthis

Atthis (i.e. Atthis historia, ‘history of Attica’), name given to a type of chronicle dealing with the history of Athens and Attica, popular from c.350 to 250 BC out of nostalgia for the past glories of Athens. The pattern seems to have been set by Hellanicus' history published soon after 404 BC. The contents of Atthides were traditional and concentrated on mythology, origins of cults, and descriptions of political institutions. The writers are referred to as ‘atthidographers’. Only fragments of their work survive.
