Originally created as a sort of annex to the Poker Flat and Dessous labels to allow for the release of worthy music that didn't fit the scope of either of those outfits, the Audiomatique imprint has since developed a recognizable sound of its own. It's not so much a techno-house fusion, but rather a sound that sways back and forth between house and techno with refreshing disrespect for the conventions of either. It's also a sound that can come across as rather cold and brittle, but that is nevertheless consistently very appealing. This collection of singles is presented in a "live turntable mix" by Martinez who built it out of a mixture of previously released Audiomatique tracks and new productions created for this release. Highlights include Trentemøller's sitar-centric "Prana," the bouncy offbeats of Faktor-X's "Projections," Robert Babicz's glitchy and herky-jerky "Prism," and the rather sinister "Playmate" by CDjjj. Martinez makes an interesting choice with his own "Shadowboxing" by presenting a Trentemøller remix of the tune just before his spare, almost severe original version. The album's centerpiece is Trentemøller's subtle and almost elegantly funky "Physical Fraction," presented here in a previously unreleased mix. Recommended. ~ Rick Anderson, All Music Guide
