'Auf ein altes Bild'

‘Auf ein altes Bild’, a poem written by E. Mörike in 1837. The poet contemplates a picture in which the infant Christ and the Virgin appear in the foreground, while further back is seen the tree from which the Cross will be fashioned. The poem, of only six lines, has been set to music by Hugo Wolf.
