‘Auf Miedings Tod’, an obituary poem written by Goethe in February and March 1782 and printed in the same year. The occasion was the death of the court carpenter, Johann Martin Mieding, who had acted as stage manager and general handyman for the amateur theatrical performances of the Weimar court.
