Bernhardi, August Ferdinand (Berlin, 1769-1820, Berlin), a schoolmaster, who in 1808 became head of the Friedrichswerder Gymnasium, Berlin. In 1799 he married Sophie, sister of Ludwig Tieck; the marriage was dissolved in 1804. Bernhardi contributed to the Romantics' periodical Athenäum and published Die Bambocciaden (1797-1800), which included Tieck's Die verkehrte Welt. His most notable achievement was the publication of his philological work Sprachlehre (1801-3).
