(b Fallersleben, 2 April 1798; d Schloss Corvey, 29 Jan 1874). German philologist and poet. He was a pioneering folksong editor and a popular children's poet but is most widely known as the author of Das Lied der Deutschen (‘Deutschland, Deutschland über Alles’, 1841).
