Aur?lia de Sousa
(b Valparaiso, Chile, 1869; d Oporto, 1922). Portuguese painter. The daughter of Portuguese emigrants, she went to live in Oporto in 1871. She had drawing-lessons with Caetano da Costa Lima from 1882 and between 1893 and 1898 attended the Academia Portuense de Belas-Artes in Oporto, where she was a pupil of Jo?o Marques de Oliveira. In 1900 she went to Paris, where she attended the Acad?mie Julian and studied under Jean-Paul Laurens and Benjamin Constant. In 1902 she returned to Oporto, settling at her family home, the 'Quinta da China', on the River Douro.
