autoantigen
an antigen that is a normal constituent of an individual and has the capacity to produce an immune response in the same individual in certain circumstances. Examples include: thyroid peroxidase (in autoimmune thyroiditis); TSH receptor (in Graves' disease); skeletal muscle acetylcholine receptor (in myasthenia gravis); and myelin basic protein (in multiple sclerosis).
