Automatic Checkoff

In labor economics, authorization for the employer to deduct union dues and other assessments from an employee’s salary automatically and remit them to the labor union; also called compulsory checkoff. The deduction is a result of commitments or contractual agreements. An example is a collective bargaining agreement that requires union dues to be deducted each payroll period.
