Aveiro District (Portuguese: Distrito de Aveiro, Portuguese pronunciation: [aˈvɐiɾu]) is located in the central coastal region of Portugal. The capital of the district is the city of Aveiro, which also serves as the seat of Aveiro Municipality and as the see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Aveiro, created 1938.
Aveiro District borders to the north to Porto District, to the east to Viseu District, to the south to Coimbra District and to the west to the Atlantic Ocean.
The 19 municipalities of Aveiro District are split between Norte Region (whole of Entre Douro e Vouga and Espinho subregion: Grande Porto) and Centro Region (Baixo Vouga subregion).
