Biography

The five-piece pop group Avenue survived a front-page TV talent show controversy to become the first major boy band to be launched in the U.K. in four years. Formed in 2006 by pop guru Ashley Tabor, all five members had previous performing experience. Max Brown had played football for the England Schoolboys; Ross Candy was an alumni of the Guildford Academy of Contemporary Music; Jonny Lloyd had been a dancer for Geri Halliwell and Girls Aloud; Scott Clarke had appeared as a Gryffindor in the first Harry Potter movie; and Jamie Tinkler had been part of the short-lived Steps sound-alikes Pop!, who had three Top 40 hits in 2004. The band auditioned for the third series of The X Factor, and after progressing through to the "boot camp" stage, was chosen by mentor Louis Walsh to appear in the live finals. But after the program producers found out that Avenue already had a management deal, a breach of the show's rules, they were kicked off the show and replaced by Eton Road. Despite recording half an album's worth of material, Avenue were dropped by Tabor, just days before they were due to shoot the video for their debut single.

Undeterred, the group continued, and -- with the help of Max's dad, who knocked down the doors of nearly every record company in London -- secured a deal with Island Records and Crown Music Management, home to Sugababes. After Tinkler left to pursue a solo career, the group drafted in Liverpudlian Andy Brown, who had been part of a Beatles tribute band, after spotting him singing on YouTube. After moving into a five-bedroom Victorian house in Camden, the bandmembers started writing their own material with the help of Anders SG from Alphabeat, rock band Orson, and the creative forces of AATW Records. After a launch showcase in London, they embarked on an extensive schools tour but unfortunately couldn't re-ignite interest in the flagging boy band genre -- their debut single, "Last Goodbye," only charted at number 50. ~ Jon O'Brien, Rovi

Avenue were a boy band on the British TV show The X Factor, but were banned from participation for having been specifically formed for the competition and having professional representation.[1][2][3] They continue to proclaim their innocence.[4] After leaving The X Factor, they continued together as a musical act and had brief success with the single "Last Goodbye". After the split up, Max George went on to become a member of the successful boyband The Wanted. Andy Brown went on to be the lead singer in popular boyband Lawson.

Beginnings

Max George was born in 1988 grew up with his family in Manchester [5] Before music, he had been a football player with Preston North End and on the verge of signing a two-year deal with them.[6] But because of an accident he had dropped his sport dreams to join Avenue and apply for auditions in The X Factor. Ater the unfortunate break up of the band he joined the successful chart topping boyband The Wanted. George is also now engaged to Michelle Keegan.

2006: X Factor

Avenue took part in the UK The X Factor, a reality talent show on ITV Network, produced by Simon Cowell. The members Max George, Jonathan (Jonny) Lloyd, Scott Clarke, Ross Candy and Jamie Tinkler auditioned in 2006 to the 3rd series[7] of UK's The X Factor, singing an a cappella version of "Leave Right Now", a song by Will Young. They made it through bootcamp landing in the final 4 in Louis Walsh's category. But after Walsh discovered that Jonathan Lloyd, Jamie Tinkler, Max George, Scott Clarke and Ross Candy were already on a management deal, he disqualified them from the competition,[8] giving Eton Road a chance instead.

2007-2009: After X Factor

After disqualification from X Factor competition, Avenue were signed by Crown Music Management and won an album deal with Island Records. There was also a membership change with Jamie Tinkler leaving and being replaced by Andy Brown, after Tinkler decided to join the indie rock band Baxter.[9]

Avenue released their debut single "Last Goodbye", which reached number 50 on the UK Singles Chart.[10] The song features on the compilation albums Floorfillers Clubmix and Dance Mania Party. During 2008, Avenue supported fellow boyband McFly on their Radio:active Tour and a February 2009 tour was planned, but later cancelled.

Their follow up single was going to be "Can You Feel It?", but a commercial release was cancelled and it was distributed free on music service 7digital. In 2008, while still a member of Avenue, Max George appeared nude on cover of British magazine AXM in support of cancer research in AXM's "Naked Issue".[11]

The band split up in April 2009 [12]
