Aviation was still a "craze" and not yet a way of life when this Pathe comedy was produced in 1910. While designing a revolutionary new aircraft, an eccentric inventor falls asleep. As he dozes, his design drawings come to life and take flight. Thus it is that one of the most bizarre-looking airplanes in the history of flight is seen floating through the air, diving into the water, and negotiating city streets. It is difficult to determine at this late date whether the "wonder" airplane was a scale model, or whether it was an animated cartoon. Whatever the case, the audience loved the picture. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
