A pyramid-shaped space forming the underside of the shoulder between the upper part of the arm and the side of the chest.

The space between the upper part of the arm and the side-wall of the chest, commonly called the armpit. The axilla is enclosed by the pectoral muscles in front, and the latissimus dorsi and teres major muscles behind.
