Aylsham High School is a school in the market town of Aylsham north of Norwich, in the English county of Norfolk. It has around 1000 students ranging in age from 11 to 16.[1] Duncan Spalding is the head teacher. The school catchment area includes the town of Aylsham and surrounding villages, including Aldborough, Buxton, Colby, Erpingham and Marsham.[1]
In May 2011 the school was judged to be overall "outstanding" by Ofsted, the English school inspections service.[3]
Students participating in the school "Friendly Faces" anti-bullying project won a national Philip Lawrence Award in December 2007, receiving a prize of £1,000 from former home secretary Jacqui Smith.
The project, first introduced in 2001, has eight Friendly Face co-ordinators, who support a larger team at the school. Originally the program aimed to support students who felt they were victims of bullying. The project was later broadened to support all students. A dedicated Friendly Face room at the school is used as a drop-in centre where students can go during breaks or lunchtime. At least two "Friendly Faces" are on hand to provide immediate support, advice and guidance on any problem a student wishes to discuss.[4]
