Iraqi politician.
Born in Ana and educated at Baghdad Law College, Aziz Sharif founded the People's Party in 1943 and subsequently joined the Communist Party. He was a candidate member of its central committee (1958 - 1963), and secretary-general of the Partisans of Peace, a pro-Soviet umbrella organization. Sharif was minister of justice under the Baʿth government (1970 - 1971) and a key intermediary in the Baʿth-Kurdish negotiations. Sharif served as minister without portfolio until 1976.
