[Irish, the lasting one]
An amazonian warrior goddess called ‘the nurse of warriors’. Cúchulainn came to Britain to train with her and Scáthach. Búanann was so helpful to Fionn and his men as to be called ‘the mother of the Fianna’. She may be compared conceptually but not etymologically with Setlocenia. Probable counterpart of the Roman goddess Minerva. Mórrígan is given the patronymic Buan in the Táin Bó Cuailnge [Cattle Raid of Cooley].
