1. An early Irish divinity who served as the patroness of birth and whose name was invoked, under different spellings, in oral tradition over many centuries. She is the sister of Boand and the wife of either Áed Alainn, a divinity, or Idath, a mortal; she is the mother of Fráech.
2. In the Fenian Cycle she is a beautiful giantess of aristocratic bearing who seeks protection from Fionn's Fianna when an ugly giant pursues her. Subsequently the ugly giant breaks into the palace and kills her.
3. A daughter of Elcmar.
