Babak (Persian: بابک ) is a common Persian male name. It is the modern form of its Pahlavi root, Papak (Persian: پاپک ), consisting of the words Papa ("father") and the suffix -k ("young", "little"), thus meaning "Young father". An alternate spelling is Bobak. Two famous historical figures named Babak are:
- Babak Khorramdin (eighth century), the leader of Khurramites movement who fought against the Abbasid Caliphate.
- Babak, father of Ardashir I of Persia (Ardashir Papakan (Babakan) (third Century), the founder of the Sassanid Empire.
