British choir formed in London in 1875 to perform Bach's Mass in B minor (1876). Otto Goldschmidt conducted for ten years; successors included Vaughan Williams (1920-26) and Adrian Boult (1926-32). From 1960, under David Willcocks, modern works have been given as well as Bach.
