Review

Back to the Mambo is one of the best tribute albums, with Jose "El Canario" Alberto at his very best, this time with Machito's repertoire of great hits. Producer/musical director Isidro Infante is a Machito alumnus, and this handsome production is perfectly suited to the singer who excels on standards like "Sarabanda" (aka "Chango Ta Beni"), "Soy Salsero," "La Paella," "Que Bonito Es Puerto Rico!," and "Oye la Bandera." The late, great Cuban bandleader/singer certainly would have been proud of this noble outing, as his material seems fresh and reborn for new ears. A wonderful homage. ~ José A. Estévez, Jr., Rovi
