The player takes the role of Miami PD Detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey over alternating levels, meaning that the player plays level 1 with one character, plays level 2 with the other, then plays level 3 with the first, and so on. The game contains five acts, each containing several levels.
The game takes place when Miami police detectives Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowrey are sent by Captain Howard to check out a diner robbery. Additionally, the game has unlockables such as a super shotgun or infinite ammo, which can be unlocked through beating the game MANY times, or by entering a cheat.
Bad Boys: Miami Takedown received poor reviews with a score of 35% from Metacritic based on 21 reviews.[1]. It received a 36% score from IGN. The average score rating on GameRankings.com is 39.1%. It was declared #10 worst for GameTrailers' "Top Ten Best And Worst Videogames"[2]; it placed #4 for "Top Ten Worst Movie Games".
