Bad Kreuznach

The present name is a development of Cruciniacum, the Latin name for a Carolingian palace in the time of Louis I the Pious (778–840), Holy Roman Emperor (814–40). Ceded to Prussia in 1815, it became a popular spa town, hence the additional Bad.
