Plot

Jang Sun-Woo directed this South Korean docudrama combining staged or re-staged scenes (scripted and/or improvised) with legit documentary sequences to probe the lifestyles of Korean teens (nicknamed Mr. Potato, Douchebag, Birdbrain, etc.). The kids themselves contributed scripts, editing and camerawork on a variety of segments depicting break-ins, beatings, and oral sex -- intercut with animation and computer-game graphics. A breakdancer attempts to kill himself by swallowing toilet paper; a drunken businessman is robbed and beaten; girls break into a bar to party; and guys gang-bang a drunken girlfriend. The film mixes 35mm, 16mm, and digital video. Shown at the 1998 Vancouver Film Festival. ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi
