Baghlan was a district in Baghlan Province, Afghanistan. The main town of the district was also known as Baghlan. In 2005, Baghlan was annexed into the district of Baghlani Jadid, also in Baghlan Province.
Baghlan district was the center of Baghlan province until 1990, but now it is a district of Baghlan province, and the center of Baghlan province is Pulikhumri. Baghlan district has around 20,000 population; its original people are Tajik, Hazara and Uzbeks, but Pashtuns has been brought by fascist king Zahir shah in 1963; the king brought them from Kandahar and Paktia provinces and gave them the lands and houses of Tajiks, Hazaras and Uzbeks. During regium of Taliban the Pashtuns of Baghlan joined with Taliban and killed many people in the district. also many of Pashtuns have been killed by Said Mansour Nadri and Abdul Awghan kush( which has been killed by Taliban today 6 November 2011 during praying of Eid Azha prayer.) Hazara and Uzbek commanders of Baghlan. Taliban has changed their policy and they are killing the famous and important men of Tajiks, Uzbeks and Hazara right now without thinking about its future dangers on Pashtuns in north of the country. Killing of commander Abdul by suicide bomber of Taliban during Eid prayer can be dangerous for Pashtuns in Baghlan district in next futures and it will have a bad side effect as people think.
