Bahawalnagar is the capital city of Bahawalnagar District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. As well as being district capital it has the administrative headquarters of the tehsil.[1]

Administration

Bahawalnagar is the administrative centre of Bahawalnagar District, one of the five tehsils or subdivisions of the district, the tehsil is subdivided into 31 Union Councils.[1] The Bahawal Nagar is the district headquarter of tehsils Haroonabad, Chistian, Fortabbass and Minchanabad. t is one of the largest districts of Panjab with respect to its area. The largest union council of Bahawal Nagar is U.C 6. As of 2011, Asim Iqbal is serving Bahawal Nagar as D.C.O.[citation needed]

Languages

Punjabi is the main language, Urdu (the national language) is widely spoken.[citation needed]

Notable residents

Bahawalnagar is blessed with talent, there are poets, writers, saints, scholars and every kind of professional. Syed Wali Shah is the Sufi here. His tomb is situated in a town named Peer Shah. Engr Abdullah Abbas is well known personality of the district and belongs to Paracha Family, the influential family of the region. Writers like Syed Noor Alam, Aijaz Saqib, Saleem Shehzad, Amir Sohail and Anwaar Gilani, Major Bashir Ahmad Khokhar Principal Fauji Foundation Higher Secondary School Bahawalnagar belong to the city.
