Bahia

A state meaning 'Bay' from the Portuguese baía. It takes its name from its capital which was Bahia, but which is now Salvador. Portuguese sailors entered the bay on All Saints' Day, 1 November 1501, naming it Baía de Todos los Santos, 'All Saints' Bay'.
