Celtic Mythology: Balclutha

In Macpherson's Ossian (1760), a city on the Clyde occupied by the Britons who opposed the Caledonians. Macpherson's apologists have hypothesized a Gaelic origin for the term, Baile Clutha, ‘Town on the Clyde’. It may have been adapted from Alcluith, as mentioned in Bede's History (8th cent.).
