It is found in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Serbia and Montenegro and in Slovenia.
Its natural habitats are Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation, pastureland, plantations, and rural gardens.
Once very common and widespread, it is now threatened by habitat loss.
