Coordinates: 54°33′25″N 2°45′04″W / 54.557°N 2.751°W Bampton is a village and civil parish in the Eden district of Cumbria, England, on the edge of the Lake District National Park. The parish had a population of 283 according to the 2001 census. The parish includes the villages of Bampton and Bampton Grange.
Until 2005 Bampton had a village school, which closed due to lack of children.
The village of Bampton centres around the Mardale Inn, Bampton village store, garage and caravan site.
Also within the village is the traditional red telephone box used in the 1980s cult classic movie Withnail & I. In February 2009, Sebastian Hindley, the landlord of the Mardale Inn purchased nearby Sleddale Hall which features in the movie as 'Uncle Monty's Cottage'.
