BancTrust Financial makes its sweet home in Alabama, but also spends a little time in the Florida panhandle. It is the holding company for two banks that operate as BankTrust throughout southern Alabama and neighboring parts of Florida. Through more than 50 branch offices, the banks offer such deposit products as CDs and checking, savings, and retirement accounts. The company's lending activities include mortgages (more than 40% of its loan portfolio), construction loans (nearly 30%), and commercial, agricultural, and consumer loans. Subsidiaries offer insurance, trust, and investment services. BancTrust Financial bought fellow Alabama bank holding company The Peoples BancTrust Company in 2007.
