A theory of situation-specific self-confidence that proposes that self-efficacy is fundamental to initiating certain behaviour necessary for competent performance. According to the theory, self-efficacy is enhanced by four factors: successful performances, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion, and emotional arousal. Successful performance, which can be achieved by participatory modelling, is regarded as the most important factor.
