Bannerghatta Road (commonly known as B.G Road) is a Karnataka State Highway which connects Bengaluru City through Bannerghatta village, Jigani and finally reaching Anekal taluk. It starts from Audugodi, and ends at the Bannerghatta National Park, after which it is known as Jigani-Anekal Road.

Bannerghatta road previously had the name Anekal road. Over the years, because of the popularity of Bannerghatta National Park, a major tourist attraction, this road is now being called Bannerghatta road.

Recently the Karntaka government approved the BDA's decision to widen Bannerghatta Road, among several others including Hosur Road, Kanakapura Road to 6 lanes.

Main Junctions

The main junctions and traffic hotspots on this road are at Dairy Circle, BTM Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology (100 ft. BTM Main Road), N. S Palya, Bilekahalli, Arekere Gate, Hulimavu Gate, Gottegere, Bannerghatta circle, Koppa gate, Jigani Industrial area. The NICE BMIC Peripheral ring road cuts this road a little beyond Gottigere. South Avenue, Bannerghatta road has been widened to four lanes by Mantri Developers, in one of the first Private-Public partnerships in the city, for a distance of around five kilometres south of Jayadeva underpass. Both the Diary Cirle and the Jayadeva grade separators are located on this road. Bannerghatta Road also has intersections with many major roads such as Hosur Road, Outer Ring Road, and NICE Road.

Software Companies

Initially, the road was mainly used by tourists traveling to the Bannerghatta National Park. After the year 2000, Bannerghatta Road saw a host of IT companies setting up their base through out its stretch in the city and its outskirts. Some IT companies who have a presence on this road include Airtel, BA Systems,Cranes Software International Limited, Infosys, OnMobile, CISCO, RSA Security, Sigma Infosolutions Ltd, Sterling Commerce, Oracle Corporation, Honeywell, IBM, EMC Corporation,Accenture, HSBC, Trilogy, Crompton Greaves, Convergys and BPL Software.

Real Estate boom

This was followed by many real estate developers investing money in the locality. As a result, Bannerghatta Road has witnessed a lot of real estate development. Today, it houses some of Bengaluru's biggest and most prominent housing complexes, such as L & T South City, Mantri Elite, Mantri Woodlands, Purva Heights etc. The road is also hub for granite & marble retailers.

Educational institutions

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, one of India's premier business schools, is also located on Bannerghatta Road, at Bilekahalli.

T John group of institutions is located on Bannerghatta Road,at Gottigere,where NICE road meets Bannerghatta Road The AMC Engineering College, an engineering institute is also located on Bannerghatta Road.

The Administrative Management College, a management college is also located on Bannerghatta Road.

The Advanced Management College, a management college is also located on Bannerghatta Road.

A.E.C.S Maaruthi Dental College , a dental hospital & research center , is located off Bannerghatta Road, After Hulimavu Village.

The ICFAI Institute of Science and Technology, an engineering institute is also located on Bannerghatta Road.

The Podar International School is an ICSE is part of the 89-year old Podar Education Complex of Mumbai, which has recently opened up here.

Hospitals

Of late, Bannerghatta Road is becoming home to a number of reputed hospitals like the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, Sagar Hospital, Wockhardt Hospital & Apollo Hospital.
