The Baoshan District (simplified Chinese: 宝山区; traditional Chinese: 寶山區; pinyin: Bǎoshān Qū) of Shanghai has a land area of 424.58 km² and a population of 740,900 as of 2001.
Landmarks
Downtown Baoshan is the location of Baosteel's head office. The main campus of Shanghai University is also located in Baoshan District. The Anti-Japanese War Memorial Park on Donglin Lu has a small museum with artifacts from the Second World War, and a modern glass and steel pagoda. One of several schools in the district, Xing Zhi Middle School was founded by the famous educationalist from Nanjing, Tao Xingzhi.
Transportation
Baoshan District is now served by Shanghai's Metro Network, although the network does not yet extend north to central Baoshan. The 952B bus runs from the corner of Youyizhi Lu and Youyi Lu to People's Square in central Shanghai. The number 5 tourist bus runs from Mudanjiang Lu to Jiangwan Zhen metro station. There is also a ferry terminal which serves several destinations, including a two-hour trip to Chongming Island and a 12-hour trip to the Buddhist island of Putuoshan.
