Dictionary of Dance: Bar aux Folies-Bergère

Ballet in one act with choreography and libretto by Ninette de Valois, music by Chabrier, and designs by Chappell. Premiered 15 May 1934 by Ballet Rambert at the Mercury Theatre in London, with Markova, Argyle, Gould, and Ashton. The ballet is based on Manet's famous painting and was the only work ever choreographed by de Valois for the Rambert company.
