Barclays Private Equity is an investment firm specializing in buy-outs, buy-ins, public-to-private transactions, and transfusions of growth capital. It generally invests between E10 million to E200 million, targeting companies in the UK and western Europe. The firm is active in sectors including support services, health care, financial services, and consumer and travel, as well as privately funded infrastructure projects. Its portfolio includes tourism company Karavel-Promovacances (France), telephone services provider PREMIUMcommunications (Switzerland), and lighting fixtures firm Siteco (Germany). Barclays Private Equity (BPE) is the Private Equity division of Barclays Capital, the Investment Banking arm of Barclays plc. BPE have seven offices across four countries. Started in 1982 they have invested in over 350 businesses including Admiral Group and Dial-a-Phone. Typically €500m is invested per annum in 10-15 transactions. Individual transactions usually range between €10m and €150m.

The team also invests in infrastructure projects sponsored predominantly under the Government's Private Finance Initiative and Public Private Partnerships (PPP). From the launch of the first infrastructure fund in 1997, Barclays Private Equity has raised in excess of £1 billion across five dedicated infrastructure funds.

Barclays Private Equity was voted the “Fund of the Year” in 2006 by the Private Equity Awards.
