Bareilly district is one of the districts of Uttar Pradesh state in northern India. Bareilly town is the district headquarters. Bareilly district is a part of Bareilly Division. The district occupies an area of 4120 km². The district has a population of 36,18,589 (2001 census).

Divisions

The district consists of six tehsils. These are: Aonla, Baheri, Bareilly, Faridpur, Meerganj and Nawabganj.

Education

Rohilkhand University in Bareilly was established in 1975. In August, 1997 it was renamed as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University. Presently, 80 colleges are affiliated to it.[1] There are four famous temple of Shiva.
