Barolong is a clan name for the Batswana living in North West in South Africa. There are different clans in the Batswana clans. Barolong (Mafikeng), Bahurutshe (Zeerust), Bangwatu (Botswana), Bakgatlha and Bakwena (Rustenburg) etc. Barolong boo rra Tshidi are based within Mafikeng.

Other Barolong settlements are found in Lotlhakane and Thaba Nchu (Barolong ba ga Moroka). Barolong Chiefs Moroka (James Moroka) and Dr Silas Molema (Molema's are the traditional uncles of the Barolong boo rra Tshidi) played a key role in formation of liberation movement (ANC).

The first Barolong chief was Morolong who lived many years ago. From who the clan derives its name from.
