Review

Barrage is an exciting soundtrack featuring 15 songs from the rousing stage show and theatrical troupe of the same name. The CD documents the original music of Dean Marshall, who has taken the many traditions and styles played on the violin and fiddle and combined them with the contemporary and world beats of percussion, rhythm, movement, and energy. The troupe's presentation is filled with the influences of calypso, swing, country, jazz, Kleczmer, and classical styles that literally "barrage" one's musical senses. Marshall composed ten of the songs and arranged all of the songs with the exception of "Until We Meet Again." It is the first single from the soundtrack and was co-arranged with Joe Segreti. The musical selections include excellent renditions of Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing," "Calypso Jam," "Spazz Jazz," and the folk tune "Old Joe Clark." The diversity of the Barrage soundtrack matches the stunning visual and aural fusion of music, dance, theater, and song derived from cultures around the globe. It is an inspiration to anyone interested in musicals featuring the ageless and powerful versatility of the violin out front of a multi-instrumental, foot-stomping ensemble. Flawless! ~ Paula Edelstein, All Music Guide
