n.pl

Protocols used in infection control to prevent cross-contamination between healthcare worker and patient, between patient and healthcare worker, and between patients. Strict barrier techniques are recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Dental Association (ADA) to prevent the transmission of hepatitis B virus and human immunodeficiency virus types 1 and 2. However, any number of bacterial, viral, and fungal microorganisms can be transferred through improper or inadequate infection control procedures.
