Barukh Dayyan Ha-Emet

("Blessed be the true Judge"). Abbreviated form of the benediction traditionally recited when one hears bad news (especially of a death), or, in the case of a mourner, when the Rending of Garments (keri'ah) is performed. The phrase occurs twice in the Funeral Service. It is also recited when visiting the ruins of Jewish holy places or the site of a devastated synagogue.
