Review

Bennie Moten's orchestra, arguably the top territory band at the time Count Basie joined as second pianist in 1929, had been reasonably well represented on records since 1923. This does have the cream of Moten's 1929 and 1930 sessions, plus seven of the ten songs cut at the orchestra's superb December 13, 1932, date. Moten himself never again appeared on records after Basie joined. ~ Scott Yanow, Cadence, Rovi
