Biography

The New Orleans-based Basin Street Six was most notable for featuring clarinetist Pete Fountain and trumpeter/vocalist George Girard at the beginning of their careers. A Dixieland sextet that also included trombonist Joe Rotis and pianist Roy Zimmerman among the soloists, the Basin Street Six worked steadily for a time in New Orleans and recorded for 504, Circle, and Mercury; the Circle recordings have been reissued on CD by GHB. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
