basisphenoid

[Basi- + sphenoid.]
(Anat.) Of or pertaining to that part of the base of the cranium between the basioccipital and the presphenoid, which usually ossifies separately in the embryo or in the young, and becomes a part of the sphenoid in the adult.

(Anat.) The basisphenoid bone.

1. Of or relating to the base or body of the sphenoid bone.
2. Relating to or being the independent center of ossification in the embryo that forms the posterior portion of the body of the sphenoid bone.

One of the bones of the floor of the skull which, with the presphenoid, constitutes the sphenoid bone.
