In this urban drama set in Stockholm, ethnic prejudice is examined through the experiences of Manuel, the son of constantly put-upon Chilean immigrants. Manuel is friends with Lena and Kalle; the former -- after an unsuccessful fling with Manuel -- becomes a police recruit, while the latter takes a job as a bouncer. The three friends drift apart but are eventually reunited by a tragic incident . Bastards in Paradise was directed by Luis R. Vera, whose 1994 political satire Miss Amerigua was a Swedish-Venezuelan co-production. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi
