Battery Ventures is a private equity firm focused on venture capital investments in early stage companies and technology-based leveraged buyouts across the communications, software, infrastructure and media content sectors.
The firm, which is based in Boston, Massachusetts, was founded in 1983. Battery has offices in Herzliya, Israel, Menlo Park and Mumbai, India.
The firm has raised approximately $3 billion of investor commitments since inception across eight funds. As of 2008, Battery is currently investing from its eighth fund, BV VIII, a $750 million fund.[1][2] Battery's previous fund was closed in 2004 with $450 million of investor commitments.[3]

The firm was founded in 1983 by Rick Frisbie, Howard Anderson[4] and Bob Barrett.[5]
Investments
Among the firm's venture capital investments include, among others: @stake, Akamai Technologies, Allegiance Telecom, Broadbus, Cbeyond (NASDAQ: CBEY), Concord Communications NASDAQ: CCRD), Fore Systems, Friendster[6], Infoseek, ITA Software, LIFFE, Ruckus Network, Spot Runner and Tejas Networks.
Battery has also completed acquisitions of companies including Consona Corporation, Cortera and Rogue Wave.
