Battle Arena Toshinden 2

Games: Battle Arena Toshinden 2

Game Description

Himitsu Kessha founded the Toshinden--held annually, these tournaments feature strong combatants from all around the world. After the established corporation found out a nonsanctioned tournament was held by Gaia, they began organizing another Toshinden; their motivations are to lure the rebel to the tournament and have him slain for his insolence.

Thus is the premise behind Battle Arena Toshinden 2, the sequel to the PlayStation's first rotational, 360-degree 3D fighting game. Featuring characters from the original, there are eleven fighters in all, including Eiji Shinjo, Kayin Amoh, Tracy, Chaos, and Duke B. Rambert; characters feature their own arenas, moves, combinations, weapons, and special attacks. Additionally, there is a mysterious bonus character waiting to be unlocked and two bosses to fight.

There are a few game play options including the one player, full battle, and versus modes. Whereas the one player mode will have you battling against eight computer-controlled opponents, the full battle option throws you into a heated tournament of 10 characters--not including the bosses. The versus mode is selectable at any time, as long as you have access to a secondary controller; here you'll fight against a human opponent.

Battle Arena Toshinden 2 also features upper and lower body defense methods, eight levels of difficulty, and camera angles including normal, long, sky, and overhead. Will you overcome the Himitsu Kessha's brutal fighters or die trying?

Battle Arena Toshinden 2 for the PlayStation is the sequel to Battle Arena Toshinden. As with its precursor it is a weapons-based 3D fighting game.

Though the core gameplay remains unchanged from the first game, Toshinden 2 includes a simple combo system. The 3D movement is also altered to create slightly better balance in battle.

Story

When the Secret Society discovered that the chief executive of the group, Gaia, had organized a Toshinden tournament behind their backs in order to start a rebellion, he was branded a traitor. Hence a new tournament is organized to lure him to his doom. Meanwhile, one of Gaia's former co-workers, named Uranus, has put the next stage of the organization's plan into action and hopes to not only eliminate Gaia from existence, but also the other nine fighters who participated in the last battle.

Other versions of Battle Arena Toshinden 2

Like Battle Arena Toshinden, Toshinden 2 was also ported to the Sega Saturn, PC and arcades.

Toshinden URA (Sega Saturn)

Toshinden URA (full title Ultimate Revenge Attack) is a Sega Saturn specific sequel to Toshinden Remix (aka Toshinden S). Though clearly based on the original PSX version of Toshinden2, it has altered gameplay making it feel notably different. It also has all new arenas, a new story, a different CG intro and four exclusive new characters; Ripper, Replicant (an android version of Sho based on Blade Runner), Ronron and Wolf that replace four of the PSX version's characters; Gaia, Chaos, Uranus and Master.

Ura means "back" in Japanese, hence the main new character Ripper's winning posture, showing him from the back, which was used in the Japanese front cover art.

Toshinden 2 PC (PC)

Toshinden 2 was also ported to the PC. It is a straight Windows port of the original PSX version with the ability to play the game in higher resolutions and some additional options such as the ability to remap all the controls (the PSX version only allowed the remapping of the shoulder buttons). Though a slowdown program of some sort may be needed to play it on modern systems.

Toshinden 2 Plus (PSX)

A special edition of Toshinden 2 released only in Japan for the PSX on "The Best" range (eqivilent to the "Greatest Hits" and "Platinum" ranges in the U.S and Europe. It features notably enhanced graphics, improved control and tweaked CPU AI. It also makes some balancing tweaks to the characters' attacks. An option to save results, option settings and unlocked characters to memory card was also added.

Toshinden 2 (Arcade)

Another version of the PSX version was also released in arcades by Capcom, with altered music.
